i sat by a river or an ocean or a lake and i
whispered to the eels around my ankles
words of longing that could just as easily have been words
of sorrow i pressed
my feet into the moss or rocks or sand and i closed
my eyes
it made no difference eyes
opened
or closed
i saw
the same.
