If I Were A Friend | Sara Ponferrada Reed

If I were a friend,

I’d tell you it’s okay,

to come over and spill your thoughts

find comfort in me

enough to tell me what’s making you feel that way.

If I were a friend,

I’d tell you it gets easier,

that days don’t stay dark

and the sun will come out

and we will create our own someday.

If I were a friend,

I’d tell you to stop blaming yourself,

that not everything’s your fault

that life can get hard

but color will soon fill the gray.

If I were a friend,

I’d tell you to trust me,

that you are no burden,

you are just perfect

and you are not even halfway.
